参与成功主办第六届亚太地区社会科学和医学大会
2000年9月,在斯里兰卡康提卡凯迪市召开的第五届亚太地区社会科学与医学大会,云南健康与发展研究会会同其他中国学者成功地取得第六届亚太地区社会科学与医学大会举办权。
经过一年多周密策划和紧张筹备,第六届亚洲太平洋地区社会科学与医学大会于2002年10月14-18日在昆明隆重举行。亚太地区以及欧美共28个国家和地区的600余名社科界及医学界专家学者参加会议。
云南生育健康与发展研究会作为主办者之一,与亚太地区健康与社会科学网络、昆明医学院、北京大学本届大会共同主办本此届学术盛会。
大会得到世界卫生组织、联合国人口基金、联合国发展开发计划署、云南省人民政府、国家计划生育委员会、美国福特基金会、美国洛克菲勒基金会、英国政府国际开发署、美国卫生适宜技术组织等机构的资助。
全国人大常委会副委员长彭珮云出席大会开幕式并作重要发言。亚太地区健康与社会科学网络时任秘书长凯宁伽·特尤德·斯尔瓦博士,当选秘书长张开宁教授,健康与社会科学国际论坛秘书长罗伯特·布莱塞诺·莱昂博士,当选秘书长阿克勒·格索伊教授,联合国人口基金代表埃斯特瑞拉·塞拉诺博士,国际著名专家欧仁·S·巴塞拉托博士以及主办和资助机构的高级官员、知名学者出席大会发言或致辞。
大会征集论文752篇,(国外483篇、国内269篇);举行大会10次、分会8次/46场,卫星会5个和工作会1个;34人大会发言、167人分会交流。
大会以21世纪健康领域的新挑战、新对策为主题,对健康观的世纪回眸与展望;健康问题的本质;健康社会科学的理论与实践;全球化与卫生改革;计划生育优质服务与生殖健康;公共政策和公共健康服务;伦理、权益、赋权与健康;弱势人群与健康;性行为与性健康;宗教、民俗与健康;以及其它与健康相关的研究或项目等重大问题进行充分研讨与广泛交流。
大会期间,亚太地区健康与社会科学网络进行换届选举,云南健康与发展研究会会长(现理事长)张开宁教授当选为该网络秘书长(总负责人)。
Successfully Hosted the Sixth Asia-Pacific Social Sciences and Medicine Conference
In September of 2000, in Kandy City, Sri Lanka, the Fifth Asia-Pacific Social Sciences and Medicine Conference was held. During the conference, the Yunnan Health and Development Research Association, with the support of other Chinese scholars, succeeded in winning the support of participants to host the Sixth Asia-Pacific Social Sciences and Medicine Conference.
After a year of careful organization and intense planning, the Sixth Asia-Pacific Social Sciences and Medicine Conference was held in Kunming from October 14 to 18, 2002. A total of more than 600 experts in the fields of social sciences and medicine, coming from 28 countries, attended the conference.
The sponsors of this academic conference included the Yunnan Reproductive Health and Development Research Association (YRHDRA – now YHDRA), the Asia-Pacific Health and Social Sciences Network, Kunming Medical College, and Beijing University.
The conference was co-funded by the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the People's Government of Yunnan Province, the State Family Planning Commission (SFPC), Ford Foundation (USA), Rockefeller Foundation (USA), Department for International Development of the United Kingdom (DFID), Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), and others.
Peng Peiyun, the Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress attended the opening ceremony and made the keynote speech. In addition, Dr. Kalinga Tudor Silva and Professor Zhang Kaining, the current and new secretary-generals of the Asia-pacific Health and Social Sciences Network; Dr.Roberto Briceno Leon and Professor Akile Gurasoy, the current and new secretary-generals of the Health and Social Sciences International Forum; Dr.Estrella Serrano, a representative from UNFPA; a well-known specialist, Jose S. Barzelatto; as well as other high-ranking officials and established scholars attended the conference and made speeches.
Overall, 752 papers were submitted to the conference, 483 from abroad and 269 from China. In addition, 10 general membership meetings, 8 branch meetings (46 seminars), 5 satellite meetings, and 1 working meeting were held. In all, 34 attendants made speeches in general membership meetings and 167 attendants facilitated discussions during branch meetings.
The themes of the conference were new health challenges and new countermeasures of the 21st century. Specific topics discussed included: the essence of health issues; the theory and practice of health and social sciences; globalization and health reform; quality of care in family planning services and reproductive health; public policy and public health services; ethics, rights, empowerment, and health; vulnerable population and health; sexuality and sexual health; religion, folk-customs, and health; as well as other important topics related to health research and projects.
At the end of the conference, steering members of the Asia-Pacific Health and Social Sciences Network voted Professor Zhang Kaining, Director of the Yunnan Reproductive Health Research Association (presently the Yunnan Health and Development Research Association), to the position of Secretary-General of the organization.
